Education Series - FAQ's

Usage

Question: Which cushion should I use?

Answer: The Keen® Cushion Reference Guide was designed to help aid your decision. We also encourage individuals to call Keen at 866.330.5336, where our consultants can help you choose the appropriate cushion.

Covers

Question: Are the covers washable?

Answer: Yes. The Keen® Cover can be wiped down anytime and can be removed from the cushion, machine-washed and air-dried when needed. Do not wash the cushion. See Keen Cover Care for more details.

Question: Are the covers incontinent-resistant?

Answer: Yes the Keen® Cover is incontinent-resistant. The cover in all JourneyTM Cushions is dual-layered. This technology enables the top layer to act as a wicking agent, absorbing moisture and wicking it away from an individual’s skin.

The bottom laminate layer prevents moisture from penetrating the foam of the cushion. The zipper is waterproof and comes with a protective flap to prevent dirt and food particles from lodging into the zipper teeth.

Question: Do your cushions have ties?

Answer: NO! We have anchors! Anchors are an add-on accessory that function like ties, in the sense that they keep a cushion from “growing feet and walking away from the chair.” They have been replacing ties because they clip (similar to a backpack clip) instead of tie or knot and are easier to use.

It is important to note that all Keen® Wheelchair Cushions and almost all Keen® Liberty Cushions come standard with a non-skid bottom to prevent the cushions and resident from sliding. We do this to help you eliminate the cost and hassle of using a separate non-skid material. If you need more security, an additional low-cost feature is the anchor accessory.

Seat Cushions

Question: Some of your cushions look too thick. Do you have any thinner cushions?

Answer: Keen’s Tru-Relief™ Foam is designed to compress and distribute weight. See the Keen Cushion Reference Guide for recommended weight guidelines for each cushion. Generally speaking, the thicker cushions are used for indi- viduals with higher weights, and compress whensat upon. Our 2" Comfort Cushion is very common solution for individuals who foot self-propel.

Heel Cushions

Question: When would I use a Keen Liberty Heel Cushion?

Answer: The Liberty™ Heel Cushions are designed to float heels in bed without using boots or pillows. They are used both for prevention and for healing. The Heel Comfort and Heel Pro are most commonly used for individuals at risk or with pressure wounds that need full flotation and still desire freedom of movement. The Heel Complete is used for individuals that have limited mobility in bed and benefit from leg positioning the Heel Complete provides.
